WPPI: Photographers' Spring Break!

If you follow us on Facebook, you know that Vivace Photography's page is usually pretty active. But, for the past week and half, you haven't heard a peep out of us. That's because for nine days I was in FABULOUS Las Vegas, Nevada attending my first (and certainly not my last!) WPPI convention. For those of you who may not be familiar with the annual WPPI convention, it is a gathering of over 16,000 photography professionals who flock to Vegas for a week to share ideas, see the latest and greatest gear and products, and inspire one another. There are fun evening events, a huge trade show, and several hundred classes and workshops which are run by the top photographers in the industry. If you are a photographer, this is one investment that you cannot afford to not make!

There were classes about posing, lighting, connecting with clients, finding your niche, increasing productivity, covering your bum when it comes to legalities... And I went to as many of them as I could make it to! Now, before you judge me for spending my Vegas vacation sitting in classes instead of at the blackjack tables, let me explain that these were not just any ordinary classes. First of all, the speakers were engaging and funny, which made the time go by quickly. More importantly, when you are as passionate about something as I am about photography, sitting in a class and learning from the best is like a dream! And secondly, I didn't get much sleep while I was there! I spent the first few days, and every evening thereafter, sightseeing, attending networking parties, participating in shootouts... And yes, I even managed to squeeze in a little gambling time. I spent a whopping $21 at the MGM casino. (Grammy, I turned $1 into $4 for you at the slot machines!!! Yay! Mom, I played blackjack for you like you asked, and Uncle David I played your Red 25 on the roulette table. I lost both. You each owe me ten bucks!!)

Rather than try to sum up my entire experience in one blog post, I will be writing about my trip every day this week. For now, I will leave you with a photo of myself when I finally reached the famous Welcome to Vegas sign:

In Vegas, everyone is looking to make a buck. There was a girl standing at the sign taking photos for all of us tourists- and accepting tips, of course. Since I realized as soon as the sign came into view that I had nobody with me to take my photo, I was relieved when I saw her there.

I walked here from the MGM. It was a long walk. No, you don't understand. It was REALLY far! Vegas is like a giant optical illusion- everything looks so close, but once you start walking, you realize how far it really is. On my way there, it actually took about 2 to 2.5 hours, with minimal (for me) stops for pictures. On my way back, I was walking very briskly and made no photo stops; it took every bit of 45 minutes. A friend of mine who is a local told me that the way to stay safe when exploring Vegas is to always be under cameras. Once I got south of the Mandalay, I don't think I was under cameras any more. There were no more tourists on the sidewalks with me, and there were several times that I thought about turning around. But I did not give up, and I finally made it!! Whooohooo!!

We've had a big week!

Not only is it already 2012, it's already FEBRUARY! Can you believe it? Time goes so quickly...

We have had big things happening here at Vivace Photography in the recent months. Middle of last year, we relocated to Dallas, Texas. We are proud to be amongst the newest vendors of the fabulous Organic Bloom frames, as well as Kelly Moore Bags. Our Facebook page has grown to over 400 fans (from 200 less than a week ago!) and we're planning a fun giveaway when we reach 500, so stay tuned for that!

We still have dates open for weddings in 2012. If you or anyone you know is getting married, let them know that Vivace Photography is available :-)

We are also beginning our search for Class of 2013 senior portrait reps. If you live in the DFW area and have a child who will be graduating in 2013, we encourage you to apply for our senior rep program. If selected, your senior will receive a free session and have an opportunity to earn free prints and merchandise just for telling their friends about us!

Our current project in-the-works is Boudoir sessions, including some exciting and fun Boudoir Party packages! We're finishing up a few final details, and we can't wait to reveal our newest offerings!!
